Okay I’m going to try to answer this in a rational way but forgive me if I get a little ridiculously emotional here because when I’m talking about Bradley and Colin I just start getting all motherly and doting and oh boys and since I’m a cool shipper mom, the obligatory Can I get you anything? Snacks? A condom? Oh God, I love ya.
Anyways.
Bradley and Colin.
Where do I even begin.
The thing with these two is that their relationship seems almost surreal.
Because just look at them. Bradley is this blonde-haired, blue-eyed, sarcastic and witty, football loving Adonis. Colin is this skinny, adorable, pale little Irish boy who continues to melt our hearts and make us question the meaning of the whole universe because he’s everything fluffy and good in the world packed into one ridiculously charming person. Bradley’s more of an open joking person. Colin is always conscious of what he’s saying and what he can and can’t say and he’s incredibly shy and private. Bradley loves football. Colin loves peanut butter.
And yet, despite their various differences, they’ve somehow made this incredibly friendship, this beautiful relationship between them, that’s so beautiful that honestly it kind of makes me wonder how it’s real.
Bradley and Colin jam out to the same song over and over again while sharing headphones. They sit together on rollercoasters because they think it’s a good idea. They play pranks on their co-star together. They eviscerate spiders together. They film fake Merlin trailers together. They go on numerous talk shows together. They go see Alice in Wonderland together. They whisper to each other at Merlin panels and ignore everyone else in the world. Colin’s lactose intolerant and yet he eats the fried ice cream that Bradley makes. Bradley puts his arm around Colin and tells him that a little piece of his heart goes out to him. They go on a three-day roadtrip together and accomplish relatively nothing besides an incredible amount of fan service.
And as for their chemistry, well:
COLIN: I’m really popular around here. These guys really really like me as you can see on Bradley’s face.
BRADLEY: Yeah.
COLIN: I’ve heard there’s some really weird wildlife around here.
BRADLEY: Oh I thought I saw something in the water earlier.
COLIN: Really?
BRADLEY: Maybe check it out. See if you can see anything.
COLIN: I don’t know. I mean I saw a cave spider earlier - What the hell is that?! What is that? It’s a…it’s a red-eyed duck in the water.
BRADLEY: Carefully. It will attack you.
COLIN: Oh no. It’s floating towards us.
BRADLEY: It’s coming straight for us.
COLIN: Quick Let’s go *giggle*
BRADLEY: It’s coming straight at us. Its got that evil look in its eye. *Bradley falls on floor*
COLIN: *laughs* Bradley? Bradley? Are you okay?
“Um, myself and Colin have spent alot of time together the last 2 years. And yesterday, uh Colin was practically asleep, we got into London about 7 in the morning, and we were talking to somebody and I said a joke, the person I was talking to didn’t laugh, but Colin woke up and went HAHAHA. And, it just-it’s just kind of, you know, I find myself knowing, I don’t know, picking on this strange wave length we have going and not being able to step away until- after I go oh my god, we’re a pair of weirdos.” - Bradley James (listen to it here)
“The two of them find each other, go to a corner, and just… banter!” - Anthony Head
“He’s full of enthusiasm for everything. Everything’s great, everything’s nice, everything’s you know fantastic all the time. Sometimes I think ‘right I can do a bit of a pep up here’ and then Colin’s there ‘yeah everything’s great’.” - Bradley James
“I guess episode eleven where Bradley and me got to have a bit of banter. And have fun in the forest with a unicorn.” - Colin Morgan, on his favourite episode
“Do you mean Merlin and Arthur are going to grow old together, or Colin and Bradley?” - Bradley James
And that’s not even half of it.
In short, despite the odds, they have a beautiful friendship. And I believe firmly that friendship is not only an important component of a romantic relationship but also a building factor. There’s a French proverb that says something along the lines of ‘love is friendship on fire.’
And when it comes to Bradley and Colin, it’s just. It’s so fucking surreal, how beautiful it is. It’s like a fairytale that could disappear in a second, which brings me, finally, to answer your question of why I freak the fuck out every time I see them making contact.
Because.
Because every time Bradley and Colin smile at each other or sit next to each other or look at each other or whatever the hell else, it’s living, tangible proof that this beautiful relationship of theirs is actually real. That’s it’s happening, now, that it’s not something my overactive imagination made up to tell my lonely heart to shut up.
Every time they do one of their Bradley and Colin moments, I sort of weep and die of happiness because oh my God this is real. These two have found each other and they’ve forged this bond and isn’t it just amazing how real it is?
sorry reblogging again but ALSO ALSO ALSO how Bradley can never keep his hands off Colin in interviews and how they live in sync and the way they look at each other with identical looks of adoration and communicate silently across couches at conventions and how Colin is never not smiling when Bradley’s in the room and Bradley always stares at Colin and quickly looks away when Colin starts to turn in his direction and fre tnhebgfsdg
k, sorry, i’m done
This might be the most beautiful post I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
I don’t care who or what you ship and in what context - this is freakin’ beautiful. Absolutely fucking amazing. Friendships like this only come around once every, oh, century or so. Maybe more often, but we don’t always see them. I want a Bradley to my Colin. I want friendship that in sync and that beautiful.
No matter who you are, you deserve to have a friendship like that.
I agree. Whether you ship it or not, this is a friendship for the ages, honestly. Maybe it makes us CSI team members for knowing so much, but it’s just so sweet. I agree that everyone needs a friendship like this. One that will last for your entire life that seems so odd and out-of-place but the best friendship you have.
